SMILE – EveryBody is a Fiesta!
YAY! It’s happening – Fiesta in our lovely city!!! Party, celebration, and lots of Smiles! And speaking of Smiles.... This week in my Nia classes we will play with Nia White Belt principle #7, 3 Planes and 3 Intensity Levels. I love this principle! It liberates me and allows me to personalize my workout for MY needs, MY goals, and MY desires. 3 planes refer to distinct measurement points in relationship to our Hara (the body’s energy center located 2 inches below the navel), called Low, Middle and High. 3 Intensity levels refer to levels of exertion and range of motion, called 1, 2 and 3. Through these sensations I can make choices and decisions to reach my potential. Sensing comfort, harmony and balance as I sink and rise through my High, Middle and Low planes of movement. Playing with intensity Levels 1, 2 and 3 as I choose what is best for me moment to moment by monitoring my comfort, breath and sensation of ease. This principle makes my body SMILE! Oh and the Smile is also how we shift our weight in Nia. Moving from low to high planes along a SMILE line keeps our joints lubricated and our body feeling yummy, conditioned, and wanting more! As with every principle of Nia, I can carry it with me into my daily life to monitor and adjust how I am performing in life. What intensity level am I at as I walk across the street, brushing my teeth, shopping, speaking to others, responding to emails, and completing my work? Sensing and making adjustments. Sensing my high plane as I reach for a cup in my cupboard, my low plane as I bend down to pet Rocket, and my middle plane as I load clothes in my dryer. Dancing through my day as I fold and unfold my bones. This is the art of Nia. Are you Smiling? I hope it is a level 3 Smile! One last thing. Stand up, and now move to earth and then rise up again. Do this 13 times (yes 13 times!). What do you sense in your body? I’ll ask you when I see you in class.
